It may be the most powerful form of advertising if the author is great on camera.

Of course, it’s the job of the production crew to bring a hair and make-up person to the shoot so that they look their best.

However, you can go for a more toned-down approach and do an interview.

The following is a screenshot of the kind you can do if you use ooVoo software with an interviewer (me):

And then, of course, if you can’t be seen on camera because you were a spy, this is another example of the kind of interview I have done.

Before you set up one of these, it’s important to set up a test run the day before to make sure it works and to get your clock synchronized on both sides (time zones can be very important). But the most important thing is to make sure your software is working properly and the call is being recorded (preferably with a backup video or on a server as part of the service).

The microphone should not be cheap, but it’s OK if it is to some extent. It just shouldn’t sound terrible. There should be no airplanes or cars audible in the background, either.

It’s also best to use a webcam that has at least 720i (or 720p) HD quality.

When these are done well, they look like well-presented informal pieces that don’t lose their value because of their low-tech nature.
